Notes
- Market distinction: in Europe the long-wheelbase version (codes BW2/BJ2 per Wikipedia) is sold as the Tiguan Allspace beside the normal-wheelbase Tiguan; in North America only the long-wheelbase body was offered and it was called simply 'Tiguan'; in China it was the Tiguan L (built by SAIC-VW), with the Tiguan X coupé SUV derived from it.
- Wikipedia also lists a model code 'AX1' next to AD1 without explaining it; it is not recorded here.
- Volkswagen states the long-wheelbase version has a wheelbase 110 mm longer; Wikipedia gives 109 mm (2,681 vs 2,791 mm).
- Sales start: Volkswagen gives April 2016 for the sales launch; German Wikipedia gives January 2016 for the start of sales of the second generation. The manufacturer date is recorded.
- Production: Wikipedia gives 2016–2024 for the generation overall; the Chinese Tiguan L continued after that and the Tiguan X was built 2020–2026.
- The North American model was updated for the 2022 model year (Wikipedia).
- The 2020 facelift of the normal-wheelbase model and the 2021 update of the Tiguan Allspace are recorded as separate revisions; German Wikipedia notes the Allspace kept the old design until 2021.
- Long wheelbase: German Wikipedia says the Tiguan Allspace was first shown at the Detroit show in January 2017 and the European version at Geneva in March 2017, with sales in North America from summer 2017 and in Europe from September 2017; the Chinese Tiguan L was on sale from 18 January 2017.
